IPL 2021 : CSK Captain MS Dhoni Fined 12 lakh for Slow Over-Rate Against DC

Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni had a terrible start to the 14th edition of IPL 2021. The team lost the match against Delhi Capitals by 7 wickets.

“Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their match against Delhi Capitals at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 10. So, Mr Dhoni was fined Rs 12 lakh,” said an official release from IPL.

According to the new stringent rules of IPL 2021, each side has to finish an IPL inning in 90 minutes, including two strategic time-outs. As per the rule, the over rate has to be 14.1 overs per hour.

This is the first offense of the team related to the minimum over speed offense under the IPL Code of Conduct, so Dhoni was fined Rs 12 lakh. While, a second offence will see CSK skipper Dhoni receiving a 24 lakh fine.

Talk about Match : Dhoni was dismissed for a duck, but his team still managed to post a challenging 188 runs on the board with the help of Suresh Raina’s 54-runs. However, the brilliant performances of Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan, who scored 138 runs in just 13.3 overs, helped DC chase down the target for seven wickets in 18.4 overs.
